With all the ways to stay in touch these days, this is one of the first areas a person can save money. Skype allows you to make free pc to pc calls, and their pc to land-line calls are unlimited for about $2.95 a month. If you have a cell phone and a land line, one of these can be eliminated. You can't get rid of both if you think you will ever need 911 services. Skype does not support 911. But, eliminating either the land line or the cell phone should save you about $600 a year! None of the other voip services are this cheap. I've been using skype for a couple of years and love it. You can even make video calls to your distant friends and it is just like being there.
